September 23, 2023 (San Diego) - Manny Machado crushed two homers yesterday to give the Padres a 4-2 win in game one against the Cardinals.  They tried to take the series tonight with Jake Woodford on the mound for St. Louis against Nick Martinez.

Manny Machado continued his hot streak with a single in the first that scored Xander Bogaerts and the Padres led 1-0 after one.

But Masyn Winn singled to score two in the seventh and the Redbirds led 2-1 after seven.

All looked lost, but Eguy Rosario saved the day in the ninth with a run and we went to extras tied at two.

Richie Palacios hit the go-ahead in the 11th with a sac fly that scored San Diego native Tommy Edman.  Luken Baker singled to score Paul Goldschmidt.  Andrew Knizner hit a sac fly to score Jordan Walker and the Cardinals turned things around in extra innings to win 5-2 and even the series.
