June 15, 2017 (Milwaukee) - After an impressive series against the Reds in which they got the sweep, the Padres set out on the road for a test against the Milwaukee Brewers.  Miguel Diaz started on the mound against Junior Guerra for Milwaukee.

Something happened to this team during the Reds series.  They changed.  They started to hit.  And it showed in the first inning when Wil Myers blasted a three-run homer out of the park in center.  Hunter Renfroe destroyed another home run to left.  Two home runs gave the Padres a 4-0 lead.

Travis Shaw put the Brewers on the board in the second with a solo homer to make the score 4-1.

But it all disappeared in the fourth.  With two men on base,  Keon Broxton nailed a three-run shot to left field.  Just like that, the game was tied.  Diaz left the game and was replaced by Craig Stammen.

It stayed tied until the eighth when Yangervis Solarte came through in the clutch with a moonshot to right to give the Padres the 5-4 lead.

It looked all well and good, but in the bottom of the eighth, Manny Pina hit the game-tying solo homer.  We started over and went to extra innings.

It wasn’t Eric Sogard who killed the Padres this time; it was Eric Thames.  In the 10th, he hit a home run to center field that bounced off the wall and into the stands.  What started as such a good start for the Padres ended in a crushing 6-5 defeat as the Brewers took game one.

Game two is tomorrow at 1:10 p.m.  Dinelson Lamet starts against Chase Anderson for Milwaukee.
