ECM PADRES REPORT: GUARDIANS SALVAGE ONE GAME AT PETCO

June 15, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres looked for the sweep tonight against Cleveland.  Logan Allen started for the Guardians against Ryan Weathers.

This one was all Guardians.  Ex-Padre Josh Naylor hit a two-RBI single in the first and David Fry blasted a three-run homer.  Manny Machado tried to help in the home half with a three-run homer of his own, but José Ramírez doubled in the second to score Myles Straw and the Guardians led 6-3 after two.

 
Two Padres scored in the third to make it a one-run game, but Ramirez singled in the fourth to score Will Brennan and the Guardians led 7-5 after four.
 
Trent Grisham doubled in the fifth to score Ha-Seong Kim and the Guardians led 7-6 after five.
 
Andres Gimenez singled in the eighth to score Fry and the Guardians saved one game and won 8-6.

The Rays come to town for the weekend.  Game one tomorrow is at 6:40 p.m.  Shane McClanahan starts for Tampa Bay against Yu Darvish.
