July 11, 2023 (Seattle) - The Padres took a handful of DI college prospects yesterday in day two of the draft. Today, we see who they picked in rounds 11-20. As always, keep an eye out for any East County high school or college kids going pro.
ROUND 11, 341ST OVERALL

The Padres go with a DI arm for their first pick of the day. Montgomery is a big right hander at 6’3 and a fastball that can reach 94-98, but was sinking to 93 over the spring. He throws a hard slider in the mid-80s, but he overthrows it at times. He has an upper 80s cutter and a good changeup. As good as he is, the numbers haven’t matched and he might be in AA or even class A for a long time before he can get back in sync.

EAST COUNTY MENTION: JOJO INGRASSIA, P, CSU FULLERTON/VALHALLA HS, 418TH OVERALL TO THE BOSTON RED SOX
An SDSU transfer who went up north, Jojo set a Valhalla school record for no-hitters with three. A great relief pitcher, he had seven saves this spring.

T.J. made a name for himself this year as an Aztec, securing a no-hitter and plenty of All-American accolades.

TYLER MORGAN, P, ABILENE CHRISTIAN UNIVERSITY (Hometown: Flower Mound, TX. Photo right via acusports.com)
The Padres go back to college in their devouring of pitchers on day three. Morgan is a strikeout machine, leading the team with 82 as a sophomore in 2022. He struck out 11 in March against Stephen F. Austin. His hit and walk counts are low, making him a possible effective bullpen arm for the Padres.

ROUND 15, 471ST OVERALL

Zac has shown he can go deep into ballgames, as high as seven. He had a shaky start this spring, but his inning count increased as the season went along. He can be used as a deep starter, similar to Joe Musgrove.

Jordan joins the plethora of LSU players getting drafted, started of course by Paul Skenes going #1 overall to the Pirates. Thompson scored 50 runs and 53 RBIs in 256 at-bats this spring. He also racked up 63 hits in 71 games played. He can hit, he can field with an incredible arm and he was named the 2019 Grossmont Player of the Year.

SAM WHITING, P, UC SANTA BARBARA (Hometown: Sloughouse, CA. Photo right via ucsbgauchos.com)
The big right-hander didn't lose any games this spring as a Gaucho, going 4-0. He also didn't allow any home runs in 26 and 1/3 innings of work. Sporting a 2.84 ERA, he can be an effective starter.
ROUND 17, 541ST OVERALL
ERIC YOST, P, NORTHEASTERN (Hometown: Ossining, NY. Photo left via nuhuskies.com)

HARRY GUSTIN, P, HAWAII (Hometown: Aurora, CO. Photo right via hawaiiathletics.com)
The Padres go with another Aztecs rival. The Warriors' Friday night starter packed a punch, going 5-3 with a 3.14 ERA and team-high 79 strikeouts in 77.1 innings. Ninth in the Big West conference in strikeouts, seventh in ERA and even though 28 runs allowed seems like a big number, it was the second fewest in the conference. Behind Gustin, the Warriors went 10-4. There is a HUGE chance we'll see this kid in the Padres' starting rotation before long.
ROUND 19, 611TH OVERALL
ADLER CECIL, P, TEMECULA VALLEY HS
Though not East County, the Padres go with a local product for their second-to-last pick of the draft. Not much is known about him other than he's another big and wiry 6'3" left-hander. Uncommitted to any school.
ROUND 20, 641ST OVERALL
B.Y. CHOI, NEW MEXICO MILITARY INSTITUTE
The Padres’ last pick is an interesting one. Nothing is known about this young man.
