July 5, 2017 (Cleveland) - Usually when you win 1-0, you do it by escaping with the hair on your neck. Last night, though, nothing happened and the Padres were able to coast to a 1-0 win against the Indians easily. Tonight, maybe the Tribe would put a little more effort into it with Trevor Bauer on the mound against Luis Perdomo.
This time, the Indians got the upper hand. Francisco Lindor singled on a ground ball to center in the third, which scored Erik Gonzalez to give the Tribe a 1-0 lead.
Carlos Asuaje tied the game with a single of his own to center that scored Erick Aybar in the fourth.
The Padres rallied and took the lead in the fifth on a Jose Pirela triple to right that scored Luis Torrens. Lindor committed an error that allowed Hunter Renfroe to reach base and score Pirela and the Padres jumped out to a 3-1 lead.
Lindor wouldn’t go away, though. In the Indians’ half of the fifth, he doubled to second to yet again score Gonzalez, but the Padres got out of a jam with the score still 3-2.
Asuaje gave the Padres some breathing room with a single to left that scored Aybar for a 4-2 lead.
Cory Spangenberg hit his fifth home run--his fourth against an American League team--in the seventh to give the Padres a big cushion with a two-spot and the Friars secured the series win with a 6-2 victory.
Game three is tomorrow at 4:10 p.m. Dinelson Lamet starts against Josh Tomlin for the Indians.
