ECM PADRES REPORT: PADRES DOWN A'S

September 15, 2023 (Oakland) - The Padres finally had a successful series in L.A., winning two out of three, so they went up to Oakland to try their luck against the Athletics.  Seth Lugo started against Sean Newcomb for Oakland.

Fernando Tatis Jr. hit a solo homer in the first.  Newcomb threw a wild pitch, allowing Juan Soto to score from third and the Padres led 2-0 after one.
 
Shea Langeliers hit a solo homer in the second and the Padres led 4-1 after two.
 
Ryan Noda doubled in the third to score ex-Padre Esteury Ruiz and the Friars led 4-2 after three.
 
Luis Campusano doubled in the fifth to score Soto and the Padres led 5-2 after five.
 
Ex-Padre Brent Rooker hit a solo homer in the sixth and the Padres led by only two again, 5-3 after six.
 
José Azocar saved the day with a three-run homer in the ninth–his first–and the Padres took game one against the struggling Athletics 8-3.
