March 11, 2023 (Peoria, Ariz.) - The Padres we’re surprised in Surprise by the Royals yesterday.  Today they faced an old friend; Mike Clevinger started for the White Sox against Blake Snell.

Austin Nola kicked things off in the second with a solo homer and the Padres led 1-0 after two.

Tim Lopes scored on a wild pitch in the third and the Padres led 2-0 after three.

But it all disappeared in the fourth with a two-run blast from Jake Burger and we were tied at two after four.

Fernando Tatis Jr. saved the day in the fifth with an RBI double.  Matt Carpenter doubled to score Tatis Jr. and the Padres led 5-2 after five.

Andrew Vaughn scored on a wild pitch in the seventh and the Padres led 5-3 after seven.

Burger got the Sox to within one in the eighth with a homer and the Pads’ lead was cut to one, but Samuel Zavala gave them some breathing room with a single in the home half of the eighth to score Korry Howell and the Padres led 6-4 after eight.

The White Sox stayed close.  Oscar Colas hit a solo homer in the ninth, but the Padres held on and won 6-5.
