February 25, 2023 (Glendale, Ariz.) - The Padres started 2023 with a loss. Typical. Today, they took their first road trip of the spring to Glendale to face the Chicago White Sox. Seth Lugo started against Lance Lynn for the White Sox.
Today, the Padres got the upper hand first with Jake Cronenworth’s single in the first that scored Trent Grisham and the Padres led 1-0 after one.
Gavin Sheets tied it up with a solo homer in the second, but David Dahl scored on a wild pitch in the fourth and the Padres led 2-1 after four.
Taylor Kohlwey added on in the eighth with a single that scored Evan Mendoza and the Padres led 3-1 after eight.
The Friars added insurance in the ninth with José Azocar’s double that scored Rangel Ravelo, Mendoza’s sac fly that scored Connor Hollis and Azocar’s run. Jake Burger hit a solo homer in the home half of the ninth, but the Padres prevailed and got their first win of 2023, 6-2.
UP NEXT
The Padres go back to Peoria to face the Diamondbacks tomorrow. First pitch is at 12:10 p.m. starts for Arizona against Julio Teheran.
