ECM PADRES REPORT: PADRES GIVE ROOKIE STARTER HIS FIRST WIN. THE PROBLEM? HE'S ON THE OTHER TEAM

July 24, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres finally had a halfway decent road trip and now they return home to face the Pirates again.  Quinn Priester started tonight’s game one for Pittsburgh against Yu Darvish.

Ha-Seong Kim kicked things off in the first with a solo homer to left center and the Padres led 1-0 after one.

 
Jack Suwinski tied the game in the third with a solo homer and Carlos Santana hit the go-ahead two-run homer and the Pirates led 3-1 after three.
 
Llover Peguero hit a two-run homer in the fourth and the Bucs led 5-1 after four.
 
Santana hit another deep two-run homer to right in the fifth.  Peguero singled to score Endy Rodriguez.  Kim tried to help in the home half with a two-run blast to deep left, but the Buccos led 8-3 after five.
 
Luis Campusano doubled to right to score Jake Cronenworth, but the Pads dropped game one 8-4.
 
UP NEXT
 
Game two tomorrow is at 6:40 p.m.  Rich Hill starts for the Pirates against Blake Snell.
