July 9, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres and Mets both went for the series today on the last day before the All-Star break.  Max Scherzer started for New York against Grossmont High alum Joe Musgrove.

Manny Machado wasted no time, blasting a three-run bomb to left in the first and the Padres led 3-0 after one.

He did it again in the fifth with an opposite field dinger good for two and the Padres led 5-0 after five.

Trent Grisham lined an RBI single to left that scored Gary Sanchez in the sixth and the Padres led 6-0 after six.

The Mets got on the board in the eighth with a two-RBI double to left by Mark Canha, but the Padres ended the game just in time for the draft and headed to the All-Star break with a series win, 6-2.
