August 12, 2017 (Los Angeles) - Last night was a great night for the Padres. They won 4-3 against the NL West-leading Dodgers with home runs, perseverance and great defense. They looked to duplicate that again tonight with Jhoulys Chacin on the mound against Hyun-Jin Ryu for the Dodgers.
We've been forgetting to talk about that first inning scoring that the Padres had been doing earlier this season! It happened tonight, only it wasn't the Padres that scored first; it was the Dodgers. Justin Turner hit a sac fly in the first to score Chris Taylor and LA took a 1-0 lead.
Hunter Renfroe came to the rescue in the third with a double that scored Jose Pirela to tie the game.
Chacin’s pitcher magic put the Padres on top in the fourth. His 10th hit of the season drove in Yangervis Solarte to give the Padres a 2-1 lead.
Wil Myers added on with a solo homer in the fifth to give the Padres a 3-1 lead.
But the Dodgers were just too good. With the bases loaded in the sixth and Craig Stammen on the mound, Corey Seager doubled and three runs scored and just like that, the Dodger had the lead 4-3.
Of course, Cody Bellinger made an appearance. He hit his 34th home run of the season in the seventh to give the Dodgers the 5-3 lead.
Taylor added his 17th homer of the season in the eighth to give the Dodgers the 6-3 win to even the series at one game apiece.
The series finale is tomorrow at 1:10 p.m. Luis Perdomo starts against Kenta Maeda for the Dodgers.
