August 1, 2023 (Denver) - Last night, the Padres lost to a last place team, for some reason.  They tried to even the series tonight with Pedro Avila on the mound against Peter Lambert for the Rockies.

Ryan McMahon singled in the first to score Jurickson Profar, but Fernando Tatis Jr. doubled to score Trent Grisham in the third and we were tied at one after three.

Tatis Jr. grounded into a fielder’s choice in the fifth with the bases loaded that scored Luis Campusano and Juan Soto blasted a three-run bomb to deep left and the Padres led 5-1 after five.

Ryan McMahon got the Rockies to within one in the seventh with a three-run bomb of his own.  The Padres kept a slim 5-4 lead after seven.

Luckily, Soto saved the day with a solo homer in the eighth.  Grisham singled in the ninth to score Jake Cronenworth and Ha-Seong Kim singled to score Matthew Batten.  McMahon scored in the home half of the ninth, but the Padres rebounded with a nice 8-5 win.
