June 5, 2023 (San Diego) - The Padres had a rare fourth game on a Monday with the Cubs, trying to split the series. Kyle Hendricks started for Chicago against Blake Snell.
The Padres surged out of the gate in the second with Gary Sanchez’s two-run homer, Matt Carpenter’s run on an error and Jake Cronenworth’s RBI single in the third that scored Manny Machado and the Padres led 4-0 after three.
Carpenter hit a sac fly in the eighth that scored Machado and the Padres sent the Cubs back to Chicago with a split, winning 5-0.
