March 30, 2023 (San Diego) - Opening Day is finally here!  The Padres hosted the Rockies for four days to kick off the season.  German Marquez started today for Colorado against Blake Snell.

The Padres suffered their typical Opening Day breakdown, or so it seemed.  C.J. Cron lined a ground ball to left that scored Kris Bryant.  Manny Machado saved the day in the home half of the first with a sac fly to center that scored Trent Grisham and we were tied at one after one.

The Friars got their first lead of 2023 in the fourth, thanks to the Rockies blowing an easy double play ball.  Matt Carpenter grounded into the fielder’s choice that allowed Xander Bogaerts to score and the Padres led 2-1 after four.

It all went away in the fifth when Cron hit a massive three-run dong to put the Rockies above the Padres 4-2 after five.

Bryant added on with a falling single to short left in the sixth that scored Harold Castro and the Rockies led 5-2 after six.

Cron and Elehuris Montero both hit solo homers in the seventh and the Rockies gave the Padres a 7-2 loss to start the season.
