August 25, 2017 (Miami) - The Padres leave St. Louis on a high after winning the series against the Cardinals last night 4-3.  And what better place to party than in Miami?  But the Padres didn’t have time to party, though; they had a game against the Marlins tonight.  Travis Wood started against Adam Conley for the Marlins.

Oh, for a second, we forgot Giancarlo Stanton is on the Marlins.  In the first inning, he launched a two-run homer to give Miami a 2-0 lead.

He did it again the third.  This time, it was a solo shot that gave Miami a 3-0 lead.

Carlos Asuaje got the Padres back into it in their half of the third with a two-run homer to make it 3-2, but of course, Stanton swam the Marlins out further with a two-RBI double in the fourth to make it 5-2.

One by one, the Padres chipped away.  Jose Pirela singled in the sixth to score Manuel Margot to make it 5-3.  Wil Myers hit a sac fly to score Asuaje.  And finally, Jabari Blash hit the jackpot--a two-run homer in the sixth to give the Padres a 6-5 lead, their first of the game.

But the Marlins scored three runs to destroy the Padres’ dreams.  And it was all done by one man.  Surprisingly, it wasn't Stanton; it was Marcell Ozuna.  In the seventh, he blasted a three-run homer and the Marlins took an exciting game one 8-6.

Game two is tomorrow at 4:10 p.m.  Dinelson Lamet starts against a mouthful for the Marlins:  Odrisamer Despaigne.
