June 7, 2017 (Phoenix) - Last night was another bad night.  That’s what we can chalk these up to now.  It’s like a kid just having a bad day at school.  But maybe the Padres would have a good night tonight with Luis Perdomo on the mound.  Or maybe not, because Zack Greinke was starting for the Dbacks.  It’s like walking into the schoolyard and immediately being told to hand over your lunch money to the meanest kid in school (we’re not saying Zack Greinke is mean personality-wise).

Tonight was better, though, for a little bit.  Yangervis Solarte hit a home run in the first to give the Padres a 1-0 lead.

Solarte singled in the third to score Franchy Cordero and the Padres took a 2-0 lead.

But like the marine layer, it just disappeared when the sheep made his presence known.  Jake Lamb blasted an absolute bomb to right field in the bottom of the third.  Three runs scored and the Dbacks jumped out in front.  Brandon Drury followed that up with a two-run home run on a fly to center.  Perdomo’s good pitching came to an end as the Dbacks led 5-2.

Cordero helped the Padres rally a bit in the fifth with a single to right to score Jose Pirela, but the rally stopped and the Dbacks still led 5-3.

More damage was done in the seventh after a wild pitch from Brad Hand that allowed David Peralta to come home.  Owings hit a sac fly that scored Paul Goldschmidt, who was ruled safe at the plate after a review and the score was 7-3.

Pirela started a rally in the eighth with a single up the middle to score Allen Cordoba, but the Padres only got one and the Diamondbacks took the game 7-4 to win the series.

Day baseball tomorrow for the series finale.  First pitch is at 12:40 p.m.  Clayton Richard will start against Patrick Corbin for the Diamondbacks.
