ECM PADRES REPORT: PADRES WIN FUN TILT WITH GIANTS 7-5

February 28, 2023 (Scottsdale) - The Padres traveled to Scottsdale on the last day of February to face the Giants.  Jay Groome started against Alex Cobb for San Francisco.

The Padres got started right away.  Jake Cronenworth tripled in the first to score the newly-returned Fernando Tatis Jr. and David Dahl blasted a three-run homer and the Padres led 4-0 after one.

 

Joey Bart put the Giants on the board in the third and the Padres led 4-1 after three.

 

In the fourth, the Giants clawed their way back.  Brett Wisely hit a solo homer.  The Padres led 4-2 after four.

 

More runs came in the fifth.  Joey Bart hit his own solo homer and Tyler Fitzgerald singled to score Luis Matos and we were tied at four after five.

 

The Padres reclaimed the lead in the seventh when Jackson Merrill doubled to score José Azocar.  Tim Lopes hit a sac fly to score Merrill and the Padres led 6-4 after seven.

 

Will Wilson singled in the eighth to score Carter Aldrete.  The Padres led 7-5 after eight.

 

Jantzen Witte doubled in the ninth to score Preston Tucker and the Padres won a fun one with the Giants 7-5.

 

UP NEXT 

 

The Padres start March in Peoria against the Rangers.  First pitch is at 12:10 p.m.  Glenn Otto starts for Texas against Nick Martinez.
