July 12, 2018 (San Diego) - Tonight was the Padres’ last chance to split the Dodgers after losing last night.  Ross Stripling started for the Dodgers against Tyson Ross.

The Padres did a good job of keeping it scoreless, but leaving the bases loaded in the fourth cost them in the seventh when Chris Taylor doubled to left and Andrew Toles scored him with a looping single into shallow left to kick Ross out of the game. Craig Stammen replaced him and gave up more to former Padre Matt Kemp, who singled to score Toles.  Joc Pederson lined to right for an RBI single to score Logan Forsythe to get Stammen out and replace him with Matt Strahm, who finally finished the inning, but not before the Dodgers struck for three runs to take a 3--0 lead.

In the home half of the seventh, Wil Myers came to the (half) rescue again with a crucial line drive to center that scored two runs to get the Padres on the board and within one.  They would’ve tied it up, but Eric Hosmer ruined everything with a groundout, so the score was left at 3-2 and the Dodgers would take that to a win and take the series from the Padres three games to one.

The Padres greet the Cubs in the last series before the All-Star break.  Game one is tomorrow night at 7:10 p.m.  Tyler Chatwood starts for Chicago against Clayton Richard.
