June 5, 2019 (San Diego) - The Padres have split two games against the Phillies, winning on Monday night and losing last night. Today was the rubber match, with Jake Arrieta on the mound for Philly against Cal Quantrill.

Scott Kingery started things off again for the Phillies with a ground ball liner to left in the second that scored Jay Bruce to put the Phillies up 1-0 after two.

The Padres didn’t worry and in the third, Josh Naylor blasted a three-run bomb to right and immediately after, Wil Myers hit a solo homer to center.  The Padres led 4-1 after three.

The Phillies got one back in the fourth on Bruce’s solo homer.  The Padres still led 4-2 after four.

The Padres added a bit more in the fifth on SDSU alum Ty France’s single into center that scored Myers and the Padres led 5-2 after five.

The Phillies started a mini-rally in the seventh when Cesar Hernandez doubled to right, allowing Adam Haseley to score from first.  Of course, Bryce Harper showed up and doubled to score Hernandez and Jean Segura finished the job with a single up the middle to score Harper and tie the game.

The Phillis would take the lead in the eighth after a two-out walk brought up Haseley, who doubled to left to score Kingery.  Haseley’s first major league hit gave the Phillies the lead. Andrew Knapp, pinch-hitting, scored him with a single to left center and the Phillies came back to take the series 2-1 with a 7-5 win.
