ECM PADRES REPORT: PHILS GET AHEAD EARLY, DROP PADS ON LABOR DAY

September 4, 2023 (San Diego) - For an appropriate Labor Day matchup, the Phillies come to town.  Taijuan Walker started today’s game one for Philadelphia against Rich Hill.

Alec Bohm kicked things off with a three-RBI double in the first, countered by a homer by Fernando Tatis Jr. in the home half, but Edmundo Sosa homered in the second, followed by Trea Turner’s two-run blast to left and the Phillies led 6-1 after two.

 
Cristian Pache tripled in the third to score Bryson Stott and Sosa doubled on a line drive to left to score Pache and the Phils led 8-1 after three.
 
Trent Grisham singled in the fourth to score Xander Bogaerts and Ha-Seong Kim singled to score two, but Kyle Schwarber added onto the Phillies’ lead in the fifth with a solo homer and the Phillies led 9-4 after five.
 
Kim singled to score Matthew Batten in the sixth and the Phillies led 9-5 after six.
Garrett Cooper hit a sac fly to score Manny Machado in the seventh and Gary Sanchez doubled to score Bogaerts, but the Phillies cut the rally short with a 9-7 win.
