July 19, 2017 (Denver) - The Rockies are slumping, but they sure didn't look it last night when they beat the Padres 9-6.  The Padres sought to try again in game two with Dinelson Lamet on the mound against Antonio Senzatela for the Rockies.

The Padres got to Senzatela early.  Jose Pirela doubled in the first to score Carlos Asuaje.  Jabari Blash hit a close-call RBI base hit that scored two runners and gave former Padre Alexi Amarista an error for a 3-0 Padres lead.

But Mark Reynolds continued to be a thorn in the Padres’ side, blasting a three-run homer in the Rockies’ half of the first to tie the game.

That was a shock, but Wil Myers recovered quickly and hit a solo home run in the fifth to reclaim the lead for the Padres, 4-3.

But of course, that didn't last long.  D.J. LeMahieu hit a fly ball that would have been caught, but Blash bungled the catch, allowing Charlie Blackmon to come home and tie the game, forcing Lamet out.  Phil Maton came in, but even the hot young rookie was no match for Carlos Gonzalez.  CarGo unleashed a two-RBI double to right center to give the Rockies their first lead of the game.  Amarista scored CarGo with a single to make the score 7-4 Rockies.

Erick Aybar hit a sac fly in the sixth that scored Cory Spangenberg and Matt Szczur brought the Padres to within one with an RBI single that scored Blash to make the score 7-6.

Gerardo Parra gave the Rockies some breathing room with an RBI double in the Colorado half of the sixth that scored Pat Valaika.  CarGo struck again for his third RBI of the night with a single to right to score Parra and make the score 9-6.

Asuaje started off the seventh with a solo homer, but that's all the Padres got as the Rockies got out of a jam and took game two and the series with a 9-7 win.

The rubber match is tomorrow at 12:10 p.m.  Clayton Richard starts against Jon Gray for the Rockies.
