August 23, 2018 (San Diego) - The Padres are even in the series with the Rockies and today’s series finale featured some day baseball from Denver as they went for the series win.  Joey Lucchesi started against Denver native Kyle Freeland for the Rockies.

Lucchesi, rarely, kept it scoreless for five innings until the fifth when David Dahl launched a solo homer to center to give the Rockies a 1-0 lead.

But Hunter Renfroe said “absolutely not” and launched a smooth line drive homer to left to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth.

That wasn’t a big deal for the Rockies as they got the lead back in the sixth when Charlie Blackmon made his way to third and Nolan Arenado brought him home with a sac fly to give Colorado a 2-1 lead.

Jose Pirela one-upped both Arenado and Renfroe by not only tying the game, but giving the Padres the lead in the seventh with a grounder up the middle with the bases loaded that scored two to give the Padres a 3-2 lead.

They took the series, right?  Wrong.  You really thought they weren’t gonna Padres at all this series?

In the ninth, with a runner on second, Ian Desmond lined a blast over the left field wall and that was it.  The Rockies walked off the Padres 4-3 and won the series two games to one.

The Padres travel back to California for a weekend series with the Dodgers.  First pitch tomorrow night is at 7:10 p.m.  Clayton Richard starts against Rich Hill for the Dodgers.
