May 6, 2023 (San Diego) - On Cinco de Mayo, the Padres donned their City Connects at home and hosted the Dodgers.  It was a perfect setup for a win.  Clayton Kershaw started for L.A. against Yu Darvish.

The Dodgers took the lead on a Max Muncy groundout that allowed Mookie Betts to score and the Dodgers led 1-0 after one.

Fernando Tatis Jr. provided the equalizer in the third with a solo homer to left center and we were tied at one after three.  He did it again in the fifth, this time a blast to left for two runs.  With the bases loaded, the Dodgers fumbled an inning-ending play, allowing Ha-Seong Kim to single and Manny Machado to score and the Padres kicked Kershaw out of the game and led 4-1 after five.

Will Smith brought the lead closer in the sixth with a run, but Trent Grisham scored in the eighth and the Padres took game one against the rivals 5-2.
