Cooking items, sheets still needed

November 10, 2012 (Jacumba/Boulevard) – Lorrie Ostrander, who has been coordinating efforts to help families who lost homes in the Shockey Fire, has sent the following letter thanking ECM readers for your generosity.  While many needs have been met, some remain. Please read her letter below, and help if you can.

Dear Miriam, Staff and Readers,

"Thank You" are words that we use to express how our heart feels when others are there to lift our spirit.  On recent days we re-visited those who were displaced from the Shockey Fire.  Many of your readers and local community members came forward in helping those who were affected.  There are so many wonderful people out there who not only donated from their home but many who went out and bought new much needed items, blankets, sheets, warm jackets, socks, etc.

Each family has received what was needed by family members and new friends of the internet world. Yet there is one family who still needs pots and pans, eating and cooking utensils, twin size sheets (for their 2 year old son).

As for toys, a wonderful person donated an 8 volt battery operated tractor to the 2 year old and has been enjoying his new ride.

With the help of a journalist in North County who read about the Shockey Fire, a large container bin will be donated by one of our local Disposal companies.  This is the second time that this company has come forward to lend a helping hand in a time of need.  So when you send out your holiday cards, offer a prayer, keep this company on your list of "Thanks",  EDCO from Ramona is the company’s name.

So from this part of the Back Country, we would like to say "Thank you for caring and bringing Hope to all in need and may you and your loved ones, have a Blessful holiday season".

Lorrie O.
