FATAL SHOOTING IN PARKING LOT AT LA MESA RETAIL CENTER

July 21, 2017 (La Mesa) – An argument ended in fatal gunfire last night around 7 p.m. in the parking lot of a La Mesa shopping center at Baltimore Drive and El Cajon Boulevard. The center houses Burlington Coat Factory, an El Torito restaurant and other retail outlets.

According to ECM news partner 10 News, a witness reported hearing one or more shots, then saw a man fall to the ground as a man and woman ran away.

NBC news reports that police attempting life-saving procedures, but the victim died at the scene.  His name has not been released by authorities, however Sean Johnson told NBC that the deceased was his cousin whom he described as “my best friend, my family member; he is everything to me and to a lot of people.”

It is unclear whether the victim was known to his attackers or not. 

Policed taped off the parking lot for the investigation, requiring shoppers parked at the lot to leave their vehicles overnight.

La Mesa Police Department is asking for public help to identify the suspects.

The first is a black man age 20-25, 6 feet tall and 160 pounds with short hair. He wore a white collared shirt and black shorts.

The second suspect is a black woman, 18-20 years old, 5 feet 3 inches tall and 130 pounds with long hair wrapped in a bun. She wore a red shirt and black shorts.
