April 19, 2017 (San Diego) - On Sunday, April 30, the San Diego County Vintners Association’s 22nd Annual Wine & Food Festival returns to Bernardo Winery.  The festival features over 25 local wineries, national and international award-winning wines, unlimited food sampling, live music, and a silent auction.

April 19, 2017 (Julian) -- You’re invited to a star party at William Heise County Park (4945 Heise Park Rd.) in Julian this Saturday, April 22nd starting at 7 p.m. with the Curiosity Peak Observatory and the Julian Dark Sky Network. The event celebrates International Dark Sky Week.   Organizers state, “Join us to travel through space and time and get to see what our local starry nights have to offer. You will get to see planets, moon, star clusters, nebulae, galaxies and Jupiter with all its moons.”

At 1:30 there’s an animal show featuring performing parrots, racing turkeys, working farm dogs and majestic camels.

“FIVE CHOICES DRAWING” AT HERITAGE OF THE AMERICAS MUSEUM APRIL 29

April 8, 2017 (Rancho San Diego) -- In conjunction with the Spring Garden Festival and the Butterfly Festival at Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego, the Heritage of the Americas Museum holds a very special drawing each year:  the "Five-Choices Dream Drawing."  The drawing will take place at the museum on Saturday, April 29, at 2:30 p.m.  Tickets can be bought in advance or the day of the festival.  You don't have to be present to win.  The cost of a drawing ticket is $1.00.  The Heritage of the Americas Museum is located on the campus of Cuyamaca College in Rancho San Diego.  Admission to the museum and parking will be free that day. 

The prizes represent the four wings of the Museum:  Natural History, Archaeology, Anthropology, and Art.

Activities include butterfly pavilion and garden tours, butterfly releases, face painting, kids’ activities and craft vendors, animal exhibitors, educational exhibits and presentations, us edible, ornamental and native plant sales. You can also sign up for landscape design consultations.

Lee House Cultural Center, 3207 Olive, Lemon Grove, to remember the Battle of Chosin and so much else in the Korean War, 1950-1953.

LAKESIDE'S RIVER PARK CONSERVANCY'S SAN DIEGO RIVER RUN 5K SET FOR MAY 6

March 13, 2017 (Lakeside)  - Lakeside's River Park Conservancy will hold the 10th annual San Diego River Run 5k on Saturday, May 6 from  8 a.m. to 11 a.m.at the Lakeside River Park trail.

The San Diego River Run 5k will be held in the morning this year, with on-site registration beginning at 7:00 am and the race starting at 8:00 am. The event will take place at Lakeside's River Park located at 10398 Channel Road, Lakeside.

VISITORS SWARM TO ALPINE HONEY FESTIVAL

March 13, 2017 (Alpine) -- Alpine’s First Annual Honey Festival, held March 11th, included teaching youths in their community about the history of their land.  That history includes honey and its production. In fact, this region was once the honey producing capitol of the world! Kids dressed up as bees and participated in an art show that portrayed bees and hives, with major doses of yellow and black.  But teaching kids about their local history was just a part of the festival.
