GROSSMONT COLLEGE’S FRED BENEDETTI PLAYS BACH, BEATLES IN SOLO GUITAR CONCERT

September 27, 2012 (El Cajon)--The Grossmont College Guitar Guild will present “Bach to Beatles,” a solo concert by Fred Benedetti, Grossmont College guitar instructor, at 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 28, on the Grossmont College campus, Building #26, Room #221. The public is invited to attend.

Admission is $10 for adults, $8 for seniors and military and $5 for students. Proceeds will benefit the Grossmont College Music Department. 

The 90-minute concert will present a variety of musical selections, including classical works for the guitar composed by Johann Sebastian Bach and Beatles favorites, including “The Fool on the Hill,” “Got to Get You Into My Life,” “Eleanor Rigby” and “Strawberry Fields Forever.” In addition, Benedetti will play on several different types of guitars, including classical, flamenco, ukulele, baritone guitar and double-neck guitar.

Benedetti serves as chair of Grossmont College’s guitar studies program and co-chair of the Grossmont College Music Department. He has taught at Grossmont since January 1985. An active performer at several venues in San Diego County, Benedetti has shared the stage with world-renown artists and played the strings before royalty and world leaders.

Grossmont’s Music Department guitar program is believed to be the largest in Southern California and perhaps within California’s 112-college community college system with more than 200 students enrolled in guitar classes at various levels of ability, including beginner, intermediate, classical guitar and guitar ensemble.
