Donations needed to repair trailer for winter

November 26, 2012 (Jacumba) – Kiwanis Clubs in Campo and Crest have joined forces to assist a family with a two-year-old child.  The family, who lost their home in the Shockey Fire, has been living in a temporary arrangement but was able to purchase a fifth-wheel trailer thanks to community donations.

More funds are needed, however, since the trailer needs “much repairs and appliances” before the family can call it home this winter in an area tha receives snow, says Lorrie Ostrander of Jacumba, who has been coordinating relief efforts for the fire victims.

EDCO donated a large disposal container and now a second organization is assisting an elderly 84-year-old victim to obtain a second container so that he can clear debris from his burned home.

“In the meantime others continue to donate with warm clothing, warm new blankets and pillows, toys and staple products. Donations were also made for the Thanksgiving table, Turkeys and Ham and a warm cooked Turkey dinner,” Ostrander told ECM. “So we are in hopes that you will place in your newsletter about our much needed Cash/Check donations for this young family to reach their goal of moving into their new home.”

Donations of cash or by checks can be made out to: The Kiwanis Club of Crest Foundation

The Buddhist Tza Chi Foundation is still in contact with Shockey Fire victims and recently came out to help a family and deliver more donations, Ostrander added. “They still plan to make another trip out our way in December. They are at this time helping with other families in the Eastern States that were affected by Hurricane Sandy as well in other parts of the world that were hit by recent earthquakes.”

She concluded, “We would like to thank you, your staff and your readers for keeping the families in your thoughts. Have a wonderful week and blessings to you all.”
