July 6, 2024 (La Mesa) – Lamplighters Theatre in La Mesa presents Neil Simon’s classic comedy, The Odd Couple, July 5-28, with a twist. Instead of sloppy Oscar and neatnik Felix, the leads are female roommates: Olive Madison and Florence Unger.
Olive and friends are enjoying their weekly Trivial Pursuit night in Olive’s messy apartment when Florence arrives, fresh from being dumped by her husband. Fearful that Florence might attempt suicide, Olive invites her to move in as her roommate. However, Olive and Florence have VERY different personalities. Where Olive is messy, Florence is obsessively tidy and obsessed with hygiene. Olive’s easy-going outlook on life soon clashes with Florence’s highly-strung neurotic tendencies, testing their friendship to the limit. When Olive organizes a double-date with the Costazuela brothers, their differences come to a head and sparks fly.
This play is directed by Diane Jones and produced by Cydney King. The cast features River Baig, Raymond Evans, Kat Fitzpatrick, Sasha Foo, Erin Grayce, Lea LeBrun, Yvonne Nguyen, Emily Talerman, and Murphy Walsh.
