June 18, 2013 (San Diego)--Mayor Bob Filner appointed Theresa Quiroz and Anthony Wagner, two long-time neighborhood champions, to the City’s Planning Commission last week.

“I want to thank Theresa and Anthony for their commitment to our community and believe they will provide a strong voice for our neighborhoods in this new role” Mayor Filner said. “Their experience in community groups, knowledge of land use issues, and belief in healthy and vibrant neighborhoods will make them great additions to the Planning Commission.”

The appointments were approved unanimously by the San Diego City Council.

As members of the Planning Commission, Ms. Quiroz and Mr. Wagner will bring to their evaluation of projects a deep understanding of, and commitment to, neighborhood engagement, affordable housing, environmental justice and disability issues.

Ms. Quiroz has championed for transit, affordability, and meeting the needs of the disabled in her community.  She has previously served the City as a member of the Redistricting Commission and City Heights Area Planning Committee.

Mr. Wagner is a Senior Policy Strategist with the Institute for Public Strategies, a national health and safety organization headquartered in San Diego.  His broad understanding of municipal code and public policy will be a great asset to the Commission.  Mr. Wagner is a third generation Allied Gardens resident and previous President of the Allied Gardens Community Council.  In this capacity, he has been a neighborhood leader instrumental in building consensus.
