August 6, 2016 (San Diego) - After last night's heartbreaking loss, the Padres had to rebound tonight.  Paul Clemens took the mound for the Pads against Jake Thompson for Philadelphia.

The Padres got things started again early with Yangervis Solarte's single in the first that scored Travis Jankowski for a 1-0 lead.  Could Cameron Rupp be stopped this time?  Christian Bethancourt was determined to make sure he didn't.  He belted a three-run RBI double to let the Padres jump to 4-0.

It wasn't Rupp that was the Padres’ cross to bear tonight, but Ryan Howard.  He launched a solo homer in the second to cut the lead to 4-1.

The Phillies struck back in the fourth when Maikel Franco scored on an error to make the score 4-2.  Howard scored on Freddy Galvis’ groundout to cut the Pads’ lead to one.

But the Padres got some insurance with Wil Myers’ double in the fifth to score Jankowski and the lead was 5-3.

Ryan Schimpf hit a sac fly in the Pads’ hone half of the fifth to get the lead back to three at 6-3.

Solarte singled on a sac groundout in the sixth that scored Adam Rosales and Jankowski and made the score 8-3.

The Phillies got one run back in the seventh when Cesar Hernandez doubled and scored Galvis and the lead was cut in half 8-4.

Solarte added on at the last minute in the bottom of the eighth with a single that scoreda Jankowski and the Padres led 9-4.

Jimmy Paredes did hit a two-run homer that made the score 9-6, but the Padres took game two 9-6.

Aaron Altherr would double in the ninth to score Hernandez, but the Padres would prevail and get their revenge and take game two 9-7.

The matinee series finale is tomorrow at 1:40 p.m.
