June 14, 2016 (San Diego) - After an embarrassing start to the series against the fish last night, the Padres looked to rebound tonight.  Their pitcher-to-face was Tom Koehler.  Drew Pomeranz took the mound for San Diego.

As with last night, the Marlins started things in the top of the first.  Chris Johnson singled, scoring Adeiny Hechavarria and the fish took a 1-0 lead.  Then the kicker.  With the bases loaded, Jeff Mathis hit a grand slam out of Petco, giving the Marlins four runs for a 5-0 lead.

One good thing did happen.  In the second, Ryan Schimpf hit a double in his first major league at-bat.  Alexi Amarista got him home with a single and the Padres got on the board.  5-1 Marlins.

Amarista singled again in the fourth, scoring Christian Bethancourt and the Padres cut the lead to three.  5-2 Marlins.  They’d take that score to the end and a series win.  The series finale will be a matinee tomorrow at 12:40 p.m.  Justin Nicolino will start for Miami against Luis Perdomo for the Padres.

In transaction news, the Padres called up infielder Ryan Schimpf from AAA and designated catcher Hector Sanchez for assignment.  Fourth round draft pick Joey Lucchesi has signed with the Padres for $100,000 and fifth rounder Lake Bachar for $350,000.
