September 13, 2016 (San Francisco) - The Padres said hello to San Francisco in a big way last night with the shutout.  They looked to do it again tonight with Clayton Richard on the mound against Albert Suarez.

Once again, the Padres took charge.  In the third, Luis Sardinas singled to score Derek Norris and the Padres led the Giants 1-0.

But unlike last night, they didn’t get away with it so easily.  Hunter Pence doubled in the Giants’ half of the third, scoring Kelby Tomlinson and the score was tied at one.  Brandon Crawford hit a sac groundout to score Buster Posey and the Giants jumped ahead 2-1.

Crawford singled again in the fifth to score Tomlinson and the Giants led 3-1 midway through the game.

Gorkys Hernandez added one more with his second homer of the season with a solo shot in the seventh and the Giants went up 4-1.

But in the ninth, Hunter Strickland, who probably shouldn’t be the Giants’ closer, loaded the bases and walked in Wil Myers and the lead was cut in half, 4-2.  Yangervis Solarte hit a sac groundout to score Jon Jay and the Padres trailed by one, 4-3.  Then, as he usually does, Ryan Schimpf saved the day with a three-run home run to power the Padres ahead of the Giants at the end of the game 6-4.  They’d win a wild game to take the series regardless of tomorrow’s result and the Giants blow another game because of their bullpen.

Game three, the finale, is tomorrow at 12:45 p.m.  A lopsided pitching matchup awaits in the rookie Luis Perdomo against the ace Madison Bumgarner.
