March 31, 2016 (San Diego’s East village) -- The San Diego Padres season home opener is Monday April 4th at Petco Park.  The Padres host the Los Angeles Dodgers to kick off the 2016 season.  The first pitch is at 4:05 p.m.

The East Village Association is hosting a Day Block Party from 10 am to 6 pm on J Street between 6th and 10th Avenues. This is a free, family-friendly community event where locals and visitors celebrate opening day at Petco Park and explore East Village, San Diego’s largest urban neighborhood.

The Metropolitan Transit System (MTS) is scheduling extra trolley service to accommodate 50,000 fans expected in East Village on opening day.  Fans can purchase trolley day passes for every home game right on their mobile phones using the free mTicket app and park for free at an MTS park-and-ride facility.   You can get your mobile app by going to mTicket@sdmts.com on your mobile phone.

All three Trolley lines will drop fans off at the doorstep to Petco Park.  Trolleys depart a minimum of every 15 minutes most of the day and every 7.5 minutes during peak hours until crowds diminish.

Trolley stops with high capacity free parking are as follows:

  • Qualcomm Stadium: 5,000 free parking spots (Green Line)
  • Palm Avenue: 499 free parking spots (UC San Diego Blue Line)
  • El Cajon Transit Center: 469 free parking spots (Orange Line/Green Line)
  • Spring Street: 404 free parking spots (Orange Line)

For more information on how you can use public transportation and save money, go to www.sdmts.com.   For Padre tickets you can go to Padres.com.
