February 22, 2011 (Poway) – San Diego Sheriff’s deputies from the Poway Station have arrested Deondrae Dunn, 32, a parolee suspected of vehicle break-ins at the parking lot of Blue Sky Preserve.

“Deputies witnessed the vehicle break-ins and attempted to stop Dunn at the scene,” said Sergeant William Gitner.  Dunn fled in his vehicle and refused to yield at a traffic stop set up by deputies. He ran a red-light and later rear-ended a vehicle with an elderly couple at Rancho Bernardo Road and Acena Drive in San Diego.

Dunn’s vehicle was significantly damaged and he abandoned it, fleeing on foot. As other responding deputies arrived on scene to establish a containment perimeter, a citizen flagged deputies over to where Dunn was hiding and the suspect was taken into custody. The elderly individuals, who live in San Diego, were not injured.

Poway detectives are processing the scene, the suspect’s vehicle, and recovered property. These detectives, as part of their regular investigative duties, will begin looking at other cases to see if they are connected to Dunn.

Dunn is slated to be booked into custody for violating the conditions of his parole, and felony evading. Burglary charges against Dunn are pending as the investigation is on-going.
