April 16, 2010 (Poway) – Faced with a budget crunch, the Poway Unified School Board will consider elimination of regular education transportation at the Poway Unified School District school board meeting on Monday, April 19. Cutting out buses would mean 3,300 Poway Unified students would have to find an alternative way to get to school.

Poway Unified school bus drivers, who face layoffs due to the proposed transportation cuts, will hold a press conference before the board meeting to discuss the cuts and their concerns about how it will impact the safety of Poway Unified students. They will be joined by parents and concerned community members, Service Employees International Union (SEIU) has informed the media. Immediately following the press conference, the bus drivers, parents, and community members will address the school board and express their concerns.
The meeting is open to the public. It will begin at 6 p.m. April19 at Morning Creek Elementary School in the multipurpose room, 10925 Morning Creek Drive South, San Diego 92128.
