June 6th, 2012 (San Diego)--Two Republican candidates supported by the conservative Lincoln Club of San Diego won outright their seats to City Council, winning over 50 percent of the vote. One was businessman Scott Sherman (District 7), and the other was Mike Kersey (District 5).
District 1 will see a run off in November between Ray Ellis, a Republican also backed by the Lincoln Club, and Sherri Lightner, who is backed by the Democratic Party, nurses and teachers.
These results have shifted the Council to the right and given more force to the agenda that the Lincoln Club, a conservative club within the Republican Party, favors. These new members of Council will also push forward the implementation of Proposition B and Proposition A in the City of San Diego. The Lincoln club also favors shrinking government/cutting government services, as well as lowering taxes.
