SANTANA VARSITY TEAM LEADS IN WEEK 6 OF ACADEMIC LEAGUE

January 1, 2011 (San Diego’s East County) – At the holiday break, Santana High School’s Varsity leads 5-0 after the first six weeks of the 10-week Academic League competition in the Grossmont Union High School District. In the Junior Varsity division, Granite Hills is on top with a flawless 6-0 record.

According to moderator Mark Gabler, a huge crowd attended the most recent Junior Varsity match-up, at which Granite Hills’ team, led by coach Lisa Collins, defeated El Capitan 78-45. Other scores were Valhalla over Helix in a whopping 107-18 victory, Grossmont over West Hills 87-48, and a Monte Vista win over Mount Miguel 65-42.

In Varsity action, Santana’s team, led by Brooke Crocker) bested El Cajon 89-19 to remain the undefeated champions thus far. Valhalla defeated Helix 60-42 and Monte Vista topped Mount Miguel 27-18. Grossmont Foothillers crushed the West Hills Wolf Pack in a 105-56 score, while El Capitan narrowly beat out Granite Hills in a 61-58 nailbiter.

Steve Haiman, Academic League director, said of the Grossmont-West Hills Varsity match, “The most impressive elements of the match was the splendid attire sported by both squads. The Foothillers came in wearing ties while the Wolf Pack had on matching argyle sweaters. Wow, what class acts!”
