Three Aztecs set NCAA Zone qualifying scores

December 18, 2022 (Riverside) - San Diego State’s Ximena Lechuga Gonzalez emerged victorious in the 1-meter springboard on Saturday to lead the Aztecs during the final two events of the CBU Lancer Diving Invitational.

Lechuga Gonzalez compiled a winning total of 276.90 points to top teammate Valentina Lopez Arevalo (272.55 pts), as the SDSU duo recorded NCAA Zone qualifying marks at Lancer Aquatics Center, where no team scores were kept.

In addition, Emma Duggan landed in the fifth spot with a season-best total of 250.58 points, while Jules Harrison (224.10 pts) and Olivia Zamudio (223.43 pts) finished seventh and eighth, respectively, followed by Taylor Konopacke (198.68 pts), who placed 10th.

In the 3-meter springboard, the Aztecs boasted three of the top-five competitors, led by Duggan, who eclipsed the NCAA Zone qualifying barrier with a season-best tally of 280.88 points to finish second, while Lechuga Gonzalez (3rd, 270.53 pts) and Lopez Arevalo (4th, 269.63 pts) followed in succession.

Elsewhere, Zamudio set a season high with 246.23 points to place seventh, while Konopacke (8th, 227.63 pts) and Harrison (10th, 204.83 pts) rounded out the event for the Scarlet and Black.

The San Diego State swim and dive program returns to the pool on Monday, Dec. 19, when it plays host to the University of San Diego in a dual meet at Aztec Aquaplex. First swim is set for 2 p.m. PT.
