SDSU MEN'S TENNIS: SEEMAN, SATO ADVANCE TO PAC COAST SEMIS

Johannes Seeman and Chikaya Sato won both their matches on Saturday to move on to the semifinals at the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships

March 5, 2023 (La Jolla) - Chikaya Sato and Johannes Seeman of the San Diego State men’s tennis team won their Round of 16 and Quarterfinals matchups on Saturday, March 4, the second day of the Pacific Coast Doubles Championships. The pair will play in the semifinals on Sunday, March 5.

After knocking off the No. 25 ranked doubles team on Thursday and winning all three matches on Friday, Seeman and Sato continued their momentum into Saturday. In the Round of 16, the pair faced California’s Sidd Banthia and Carl Emil Overbeck and triumphed in the third set to win a tight 6-4, 4-6, 6-2 match. In the quarterfinals, they matched up against UC Santa Barbara’s Luka Mrsic and Phillip Jordan. For the second time in three days, the pair defeated a highly touted team of Gauchos. This match was even closer than their first of the day, with Seeman and Sato a point away from elimination on multiple occasions, but the Aztecs came out on top in the third set tiebreaker 6-4, 3-6, 7-6 (7-5).

“It’s great to see Johannes and Chikaya continue their winning ways,” head coach Gene Carswell had to say after Saturday’s competition. “They played some tough competition in two hard-fought matches and did a great job of staying strong during the opponent's match points in the second match to bring it home in a third set tiebreaker.”

The Pacific Coast Doubles Championships conclude tomorrow, Sunday, March 5. 17th seeded Seeman and Sato will take on Pepperdine’s second seeded Daniel DeJonge and Tim Zeitvogel at 10:30 a.m. with the winner advancing to the finals to face the winner of Stanford’s 17th seeded Samir Banerjee and Filip Kolasinski and Nebraska’s 17th seeded William Gleason and Calvin Mueller at 1:30 p.m.
