Aztecs grab first-place finish in 400 free relay

September 30, 2017 (Reno) - The San Diego State women’s swimming team placed second in the Nevada Relays with a team score of 152 on Saturday afternoon. Nevada placed first in the event with 186 points and UC Davis rounded out the three squads with a score of 102.

The Aztecs concluded the meet with a first place finish in the 400-yard freestyle relay, as Ava Howard, Alma Thormalm, McKenna Meyer and Ana Candelot Roman teamed up to post a time of 3:34.88. SDSU grabbed an additional six points with a fourth-place finish in the event, with Zeynep Odabasi, Marina Preiss, Summer Harrison, and Courtney Vincent combining for a time of 3:44.04.

 

SDSU also recorded second-place finishes in the 300-yard butterfly, 300-yard backstroke, 300-yard breaststroke, 500-yard freestyle, 400-yard medley and 4x100 IM relay.

 

In the 200-yard freestyle relay, SDSU grabbed third, fourth, and fifth place in the event, led by Klara Thormalm, Summer Harrison, Alma Thormalm, and Elliyana Ferrin posting a third-place time of 1:37.86.

 

In the 11th event of the day, Klara Thormalm, Alma Thormalm, Frida Berggren and Meyer nearly grabbed a first-place finish in the 4x100 IM relay with a time of 3:58.16 – falling just 0.73 seconds behind Nevada’s quad of Lima Cholodovskis, Jaeger Turner, Emma Payne, and Jamie Reynolds.

 

The Aztecs jump back into action next week in Malibu, California, for a dual meet against Pepperdine next Thursday, Oct. 5.
