McKenna Meyer posts two B-cut times

November 16, 2017 (San Diego) - The San Diego State swimming team posted a strong showing on the first day of the A3 Invitational, jumping out to a 28-point lead over second-place UC San Diego after the first five events of the three-day invitational.
The Aztecs set four Aztec Aquaplex records, including a pair set by sophomore McKenna Meyer. Meyer started off her career day qualifying for the finals by using a first-place time of 4:50.40 in the 500 free in the preliminary round. Later, Meyer bested that mark by nearly five seconds, setting a new career-best and Aquaplex record with a time of 4:45.89. The B-cut time for Meyer is the 17th fastest time in the nation this year, the fastest in the Mountain West by roughly 7.5 seconds, and the third fastest time in program history.
Meyer’s other first-place finish came in the 200 IM, using a career-best 2:00.51 in the preliminary round. That mark also set an Aquaplex record and is a new 2017-18 Mountain West best, in addition to being the 29th best time in the nation this year and the fifth best 200 IM time in Aztec history.
In addition to Meyer’s historic day, Frida Berggren recorded a first-place finish in the 200 IM final, using a season-best time of 2:00.93.
Summer Harrison was a part of both SDSU’s first-place relay teams, including an Aquaplex-record 1:32.56 in the 200 free relay. Harrison paired up with Peyton Wilson, Alma Thormalm, and Klara Thormalm in the record-setting performance, besting Cal State East Bay by a 2.33-second margin.
The quad of Harrison, Wilson, and the Thormalm sisters also had standout individual performances in the 50 free, taking each of the top four spots in the field of 32 swimmers. Alma Thormalm (23.41) took home first place, while Harrison (23.50), Wilson (23.60), and Klara Thormalm (23.66), finished second, third, and fourth, respectively.
The Aztecs concluded the day shattering the pool record for the 400 medley relay, posting a time of 3:44.38 and breaking the previous mark set in 2011 by 9.54 seconds. Once again, Harrison contributed to another record-setting performance and was joined by Wilson, Caitlin Delany, and Elliyana Ferrin.
Tomorrow’s second day of competition features the 200 medley relay, 400 individual medley, 100 fly, 200 free, 100 breast, 100 back, and 800 free. Preliminary rounds are scheduled to start at 9:00 a.m., with the finals beginning at 4:30 p.m.
