The Aztecs finished in the top five in five events

February 5, 2022 (Albuquerque) - The Aztec track and field team finished the UNM Collegiate Classic at the Albuquerque Convention Center Saturday afternoon. SDSU had five athletes enter their name in the Aztecs’ indoor record books and five earn top five finishes.

Jordyn Bryant took second in the shot put with a throw of 45-03.75 (13.81m), the replacing her previous PR for ninth all-time. Onyi Anigbogu also PR’d and finished fourth (43-10.75).

 

Freshman Ashley Callahan cleared 13-07.75 (4.16m) in the pole to finish second. Her mark was also ninth all-time. Kaitlin Heri came in fifth (13-01.75) and Elizabeth Funk placed eighth (12-02.00).

 

In the triple jump, Jade Cany cleared 41-08.75 (12.72m), the fourth best jump in SDSU’s indoor history. Simone Johnson had a jump of 40-02.75, also a top ten mark, coming in at No. 8.

 

The Aztec 4x400m relay team had another impressive showing. The team of Jalyn Harris, Aisha Watt, Rhea Hoyte and Nyjari McNeil placed second with a time of 3:41.25, the sixth best time in program history.

 

Danae Dyer qualified for the 60m hurdles final after winning her heat in the prelims with a time of 8.65. She improved her time to 8.48 in the finals and placed seventh.

 

THE NOTE

Ashley Callahan’s mark of 13-07.75 (4.16m) was less than inch from tying former Aztec All-American Bonnie Draxler’s freshman record for an Aztec.

The Aztecs will be back in Albuquerque next weekend for the Don Kirby Elite Invitational.
