April 18, 2019 (Azusa) - Freshman Sara Absten and sophomore Asia Smith wrapped up the heptathlon at the Bryan Clay Invitational Thursday afternoon. Smith finished in seventh place in her group with 5,157 points while Absten came in 14th place in her grouping with 4,550 points.

Smith’s 5,157 points is a new personal best and she was just 64 points away from cracking SDSU’s all-time top ten. She came in fifth place in the long jump with a leap of 18-10.00, 13th in the javelin (99-8) and 16th in the 800 meter run (2:36.52).

Absten had personal best marks in two of her three events Thursday. She cleared 18-04.25 in the long jump, which earned her fifth place in her group. She also had a time of 2:21.38 in the 800m run to beat her previous best time by over two seconds.

UP NEXT

The Aztecs will be split between the Bryan Clay Invitational (Azusa, Calif.) and the Beach Invitational (Long Beach, Calif.) on Friday. Both meets are streamed on FloTrack (subscription required).
