February 7, 2020 (Albuquerque) - The Aztec track and field team wrapped up day one of the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational Friday evening at the Albuquerque Convention Center.

Vanessa Spizewski had the top finish among Aztecs, earning a second-place finish in the long jump with a new PR jump of 18-07.25 (5.67m). Dejanae Thompson came in ninth (17-04.00).

Sonja Andenmatten made her SDSU debut in the 600m run and finished in 1:33.51, good for sixth place and the fourth best time in school history.

In the unseeded portion of the 400m dash, Nyjari McNeil finished in fourth with a time of 54.81, less than second from her PR. Maya Brosch placed sixth with a personal best time of 56.23.

Three Aztecs competed in the high jump with all three clearing 5-05.25 (1.66m). Jade Cany had the top finish based on tiebreakers and finished in eighth and improved her PR by a quarter inch.

The evening ended with seven Aztecs running the 200m dash. Danae Dyer paced SDSU, clocking in at 23.91 for tenth place and tying her for the seventh best time in SDSU’s indoor history. Jada Moore (24.18, 17th place) was next and was followed by Neele Schuten (24.53, 23rd), Tiana Osk Whitworth (24.61, 25th), Tai McDonald (35th, 24.95), Alexus Alexander (36th, 24.97) and Kasey Ebb (25.92, 64th).

THE NOTE

Three of the top four times in SDSU’s 600m indoor history are from current Aztecs (Sakura Robeson, Nyjari McNeil and Sakura Roberson).

UP NEXT

The Aztecs continue the New Mexico Collegiate Invitational Saturday with the 60m dash, 400m dash, 800m run, 60m hurdles, 4x400m relay, triple jump and shot put.
