Jordyn Bryant sets new SDSU record for freshmen in the outdoor shot put

April 5, 2019 (Las Vegas) - The Aztec track and field team tied for second in the Mountain West Challenge Friday afternoon at UNLV. SDSU took first in eight events and saw Jordyn Bryant set a SDSU freshman record in the shot put. Bryant had a throw of 49’ 9.25” (15.17m) to top Jasmine Burrell’s record of 49’ 6.25” set in 2012.
Other Aztecs to take first included Nyjari McNeil (400m, 53.81), Maya Brosch (400m hurdles, 1:00.88), Bonnie Draxler (14-03.25), Hannah Taylor (triple jump, 38-10.25) and Erica Grotegeer (discus throw, 153-05).
San Diego State also won both relay races for the second meet in a row. The team of Callista Fletcher, Jalyn Harris, Tai McDonald and Danae Dyer finished the 4x100m relay in 45.64. The 4x400m relay team of Sakura Roberson, Lisa-Anne Barrow, Jalyn Harris and Nyjari McNeil clocked in at 3:38.91.
The Aztec vaulters showed why they are one of the top programs in the nation by earning four of the top five marks. Behind Draxler was Kaitlin Heri and Marissa Berry, who both cleared 13-00.75 (3.98m) and Alysia Allen came in fifth (12-04.00, 3.78m). The previous stadium record was 12-08.00 by former Aztec Shayla Balentine in 2002.
Aside from Hannah Taylor winning the triple jump with a new PR, she also took second in the high jump with a personal best jump of 5’ 7.75” and fourth in the long jump (18-02.25, 5.54m).
Lisa-Anne Barrow came in second in the long jump (18-0800; 5.69m) and third in the 200m dash (24.08w)
Other top three Aztec finishes include Callista Fletcher (2nd in 200m; 23.57w), Jalyn Harris (3rd in 400m; 54.84) and Jordan Bryant (2nd in discus; 139-05.)
THE NOTE
The Aztecs have set seven class records in 2019. Nyjari McNeil has already broke three freshman record (400 indoor and 800 indoor and outdoor), Bonnie Draxler has set school records in both outdoor and indoor pole vault which are now senior records, Jalyn Harris set a new indoor record for the 400 and now Jordyn Bryant has set a new freshman record for outdoor shot put.
