March 6, 2021 (Laramie, Wyo.) -The San Diego State volleyball team dropped a three-set decision (19-25, 14-25, 18-25) at Wyoming Saturday afternoon at UniWyo Sports Complex. The Aztecs fell to 3-7 (3-7 MW) with their fourth straight loss, while the Cowgirls improved to 7-3 (7-3 MW).

Individually, Victoria O’Sullivan led the way with eight kills, while Nya Blair and Maddie Lenn added five and four, respectively.

O’Sullivan had SDSU’s lone solo block on the day and chipped in with two block assists. Erin Gillcrist added four block assists and Heipua Tautua’a had three. Tautua’a and Lauren Lee each had 13 digs, marking the eighth time in matches Lee has reached double figures in that category.

Ashely Vanderpan dished out 15 assists to lead San Diego State, while Kennedy Feuerborn chipped in with seven.

The Aztecs led early in the first set 8-6, taking advantage of a UW attack error and a kill by Gillchrist, and again at 9-7 following a kill by Blair. Wyoming, however, went on a 11-6 run to take an 18-13 lead. SDSU got a few points back on blocks by Feuerborn and Serena Hodson, and an attack error but were unable to get any closer than three points the rest of the first set in a 25-19 setback.

San Diego State also had an early lead in the second set at 4-2 and 5-3 but couldn’t quite build on those small advantages. The Aztecs got to within two at 10-7 following a kill by Tautua’a, but the Cowgirls scored the next six points and coasted to the 25-14 set win.

The third set was a back-and-forth affair with the score knotted up at 10-10 after a kill by O’Sullivan. SDSU kept fighting the rest of the way, getting to within three points at 21-18 on a shared block by Abby Pugh and O’Sullivan. UW, however, kept up its small lead until pulling away with the final four points to win 25-18.

San Diego State returns home to welcome Utah State on Thursday and Friday, with both matches set for a 6 p.m. start time.
