February 22, 2018 (San Diego) - San Diego State freshman Emily Bennett has been named the Golden Coast Conference Player of the Week. The award is the first of Bennett’s career and the first for SDSU this season.

A native of Oakdale, Bennett helped the Aztecs to a 12-5 GCC-opening win at Concordia last Friday. The utility posted two goals, three assists, a career-high six steals and drew a personal-record four ejections against the Eagles. For the game, she led the team in goals (tied), assists, steals and ejections drawn.

The six steals marked an individual best for any Aztec this season, along with the four ejections drawn. The freshman played a part in five of SDSU’s 12 goals when counting her goal and assist totals. Bennett now has six multiple-goal games, three multiple-assist outings and seven multiple-steal performances, all of which lead the team.

Bennett and the Aztecs return to action on Friday when they compete at the Barbara Kalbus Invitational in Irvine. No. 14 San Diego State will face fifth-ranked Hawai’i at 3 p.m. PT at UCI’s Anteater Aquatics Center.
