Emily Bennett scored three goals and an assist

March 19, 2019 (San Diego) - The No. 25 Aztec water polo team fell to No. 14 Princeton Tuesday afternoon at the Aztec Aquaplex. SDSU fell behind 5-0, rallied to score four straight goals, but was then outscored 3-2 down the stretch.

Emily Bennett led the Aztecs with three goals and an assist; it was her fourth hat trick of the year. Karli Canale continued her outstanding season with a goal and an assist. Senior goalkeeper Maura Cantoni collected 12 saves, her fifth game with double-digit saves.

The Tigers dominated the first quarter, outscoring the Aztecs 5-0. SDSU responded with four unanswered goals with two coming from Bennett to bring the score to 5-4 early in the third quarter.

Princeton would score three of the next four goals to take an 8-5 lead with 7:09 left. The Aztecs would hold the Tigers scoreless for the remainder of the game, but could only manage one more goal, Bennett’s third of the day.

UP NEXT

The Aztecs will hit the road for a pair of GCC road games this weekend. On Friday, they play at LMU at 4:00 p.m. and then on Saturday they are at California Baptist for a 1:00 p.m. game.
