SDSU WOMEN'S GOLF PLACES FIFTH AT BYU'S RIVERSIDE CLASSIC

April 11, 2023 (Provo, Utah) - The Aztec women’s golf team placed fifth at BYU’s Riverside Classic Tuesday, finishing with a score of 884, their best 54-hole score of 2023. SDSU was one stroke away from tying for third place and saw five of their six golfers record their lowest score of the spring.

SDSU was led by Bernice Olivarez Ilas and Anika Sato who each had top-15 finishes. Olivarez Ilas finished with a two-over-par 218 (T-6th) and Sato had a 219 (T-11th). It was the second top-15 finish this season for both golfers.

Olivarez Ilas shot a 73 on Tuesday. She started the round with eight straight pars and then had a pair of birdies on the back nine.

After shooting a 71 and 72 Monday, Sato had a 76 Tuesday. Her 219 was her second-best 54-hole score of the year.

April Ranches shot a one-under-par 35 on the front nine Tuesday before finishing with a 76. She shot a 223 (+7) and tied for 22nd place, her highest on the year and best since placing 13th at the 2021 Mountain West Championship. Ranches finished the tournament with eight birdies, tied for the fourth most.

Sammy Lee, who was playing as an individual, finished with a 224, one stroke off her career best. She finished the tournament with a one-over-par 73 Tuesday, her second-best round of the season.

Andrea Gomez bounced back from an uneven Monday to shoot an even par 72 with 14 pars, two bogeys and two birdies. She finished the tournament in 34th place with a 228.

Anna Lina Otten carded a 78 in her final round and finished in 38th place with a 232.

Sacramento State won the team title with an 872 (+8) while BYU’s Adeline Anderson and Sac State’s Sienna Lyford tied for the individual crown with a one-under-par 215. Anderson was playing as an individual.

The Aztecs will compete in the Mountain West Championships April 18-20.
